Her head was still buzzing. It hadn’t abated.
The scent of burning persisted in her nose still. This was the last thing she needed now. But she couldn’t have known that it would get even worse because just close to her, a car was parking and down came the windows. As she laid eyes on the driver, her heart skipped two beats.
A Quick Morning
Up until now, the morning had been crazily fast.
5-year old Kenneth, Tina Jacob’s son, was running late for swimming practice and the shopping list looked like it had multiplied and gotten more expensive than anticipated. To top it off, 2-year-old Mary, her daughter, was wailing loudly about her new socks that didn’t feel right.
Bad Start
Tina was a single parent. This translated to taking the kids everywhere herself and handling all the house chores alone.
She sort of had two jobs and felt like she was everywhere at the same time, even on the good days. However, today didn’t begin so well and was even on the verge of spiraling further down.
No forthcoming Breaks
The rush seeped past the morning hours into the afternoon too. This would elicit the urge to curl up and cry.
There were too many things going south at the moment. Her shirt was just ruined by the dry cleaners and she still hadn’t received her salary. Yet, this was only the beginning of her ill fortunes.
Disturbing Odor
She glanced around trying to locate where the scary sound was coming from. Then she felt a sudden strange vibration snake up her body. It was as if she was driving on a very stony path.
When the situation had diffused, her nostrils caught a whiff of burning rubber. The irritating smell caused a tingly sensation in her nostrils and she scrunched up her face. What happened just now?
Blown Tire
Tina turned on her “Pull over” indicators and stopped the car. As she did, she felt dread wash over her as she readied her mind to face the next thing.
She looked out the window and groaned in defeat. Her tire was blown. It was though someone had left yucky confetti lying around. However, that wasn’t the only issue..
No Money For Help
Tina searched her mind for alternatives. Calling for help on the road was not free and she hadn’t received her salary yet.2 This was not an option. She’d have to attempt to help herself.
Tilting her head back and letting out a sigh, she got out of her car and made for the trunk. She didn’t know where she was but there was someone looking at her.
A Loud Honk
Opening the trunk, she looked at her extra tire and frowned. Ordinarily, it shouldn’t take much to fix however, the bolts had gotten rusty. She quickly became very anxious, wondering how she was going to go about it.
Immediately, someone startled her with a loud honk.
Unsolicited Help
Just as she lifted her head, she noticed that someone had parked very close to her.
She observed the rough-looking man who was driving. He grinned at her while volunteering his help. Outwardly, she was polite and refused the offer with a smile. She explained that she could handle it herself. But inwardly, alarms were going off about something not feeling right.
Feeling Uncomfortable
Perhaps it was just a cautionary feeling all women felt but she didn’t want him an inch closer to her.
He refused her rejection, offering his assistance the second time. Tina gave him an assuring smile that she had it under control. He looked at her for a bit. He must have been racking his head to conclude if she could change the tire herself or not. Tina felt like it was taking forever. Suddenly, a quick sound.
Acting Skills
Her phone was ringing. She took the call and spoke as though everything was in control and as though the friend was asking about her location. However, it was a teleprompter and it got the man to move away.
He screamed mean names at her as he pulled away. Tina ended the call and took a look around. That was close but she didn’t know what to do next because there was another car that was fast approaching.
Damsel In Distress
Her car was like an injured animal on the dirt road with surrounding fields. In reality, she looked like a damsel who needed saving- and she really did.
Another Man
A man alighted from his car, tall, handsome, dark. He was much taller than she was and had a very mu scular build. Her stomach was tied in knots with fear.

She went to her camera app and started recording a video – Better safe than sorry. The man’s accent was southern. He didn’t inquire if she needed assistance, he persisted and offered it.
Man On A Mission
This man was very different from the first. He had a warm smile and looked sincere. He asked to help her change the tire and got right to it. Tina had no choice but to let him. He was determined to achieve this one goal.
He was putting on a shirt on dirty jeans. He had a nice car and changed the tire like it was nothing. It hadn’t taken long before the bolts came off like his own hands were grease.
Done In The Blink of An Eye
She asked him how he was able to take them out that easily.
The man laughed lightly and said that his lifestyle and job needed strong hands so it was part of the package. She attempted to express her gratitude with a little cash. But he refused. While he fixed the new tire, they made small talk and then she saw something unique.
The Mystery Deepens
His shoes looked familiar to her. They had caught her eye in a fashion store window some time back. She frowned when she remembered why the memory returned to her. The shoes cost a lot, a whole lot!
She turned to observe the dashing man and wondered what his line of work could be. She thought it a bit rude to ask so she refrained from doing so. Afterwards, he bid her a good day and zoomed off. But that was not to be the end of their opportune meeting.
Sending her Gratitude
She still felt somewhat bad that she wasn’t able to properly thank him.
So, she put up a photo with a note saying that she valued the kindness showed. He had come and brightened up her otherwise terrible day. The following day, a note in her comment section made her crumple to the ground.
Famous Face
Someone had exclaimed that the person in the photo was Luke Bryan!
Luke Bryan currently stands as oone of the biggest country music sensations today. It also wasn’t a coincidence that he was passing by when her tire had just gotten bad.
Living Local
It so happened that one of his properties is in the area where Tina’s car broke down. It is a suburb in Tennessee, the home of country where many music stars such as Luke Bryan live.
Luke Bryan is most popular for his songs “Most People Are Good”, ‘What Makes You Country” and ‘One Margarita’. He has maintained success and won awards as one of the most successful country music singing sensations for more than 10 years. Little wonder he had no need for Tina’s monetary appreciation. But people were saying more online.
Going Viral
Tina observed as comments kept pouring in. The whole excitement surrounding the turn of events made her heart pound. Engagements and likes on her post were increasing.
The comments showed that the country star had long been showing kindness to people. He had a reputation for helping others amidst his busy life. Tina was in awe as she watched the story spread like fire.
Well-deserved
Tina was awestruck as the little gratitude post she made on social media went viral through almost all the news and radio channels in the US.
Her encounter took social media by storm. She was glad that the man who had showed her kindness, the one she discovered was Luke Bryan, was garnering his well-deserved attention.
More Thank Yous
The Mayor of Columbia, Chaz Molder, even sent Bryan a tweet about his kindness!
The Mayor presented Bryan with a key to the city and gave him a spot as Grand Marshall of the @ColumbiaTNUSA Christmas Parade with Santa. This was his way of honoring Bryan. However, it didn’t take long before Tina’s post got to him.
Last Words
Tina had become the object of admiration of half of America. Many would give anything to have their car fixed by Luke Bryan. But Bryan hadn’t even finished with Tina.
When he finally saw Tina’s post, he dropped a comment, engaging with her one more time. He said it was his pleasure and that she had a beautiful family. He ended by wishing her well.
Red In The Cheeks
She felt somewhat foolish for not knowing he was a famous person.
But maybe he preferred to be given no special treatment. What was most important was that she had expressed her gratitude. Tina was also sure of one other thing.
